Minutes from general business session at 2010 State Convention Wednesday June 9, 2010
Meeting opened at 1:30 PM by President Kathy Adams
Reports:
Secretary; Don Snow - Reading of previous minutes suspended as they are posted for all to see on the NHNAPUS website.
Legislative Dick Fleming reported lots of open seats in both house and senate. Hopefully the votes will be Postal friendly. Dick also stressed the importance of giving to the PAC effort because that is what really drives behavior in Washington.
Convention Chair Tina Bowen thanked all those who participated in the convention effort and for the attendees understanding and staying flexible with agenda changes.
Membership Chair Mike Renkert reported numbers are up and the goal now is to zero in on Massachusetts to be number 1 in country. There are still 35 non-members that we need to enlist.
PAC Chair Paul LaFleur reported $835 raised at convention so far. 95% of active and 100% retiree participation. Year to date efforts are at $2100 with a goal of $3000.
Service Rep Pam Lewis reported the credit union now allows for one free box of checks per year and anyone needing any information on products and services offered by NAPUS FCU to contact her.
Postmaster Rep Ken Kinson reported that there have been 3 adverse actions of Postmasters being busted down to clerks. Stupid is as stupid does. These folks had it coming to them as there is no right way to do the wrong thing.
Zip code VPs reported that 034 and 036/7 had a joint meeting to discuss current issues
Treasures report given by Don Snow and accepted by motion.
New Business, Dick Fleming 2nd Judy LaBranche that chapter endorses Scott Boardman Postmaster of Camden Maine for National Secretary Treasurer. Motion passed and carried
Kendra West-Senor reported that there are 70 people registered at convention with half that number being retirees.
Nomination of officers should be given to Ken Kinson or Kendra West Senor as election of officers will be held later in meeting.
Time and Place Chair Claire White gave her presentation and after much discussion the chapter unanimously voted to once again join Vermont in a joint convention. 2011 convention will be hosted by Vermont at the five star resort The Equinox in Manchester VT. An increase in attendance seemed to be the driving force for the vote.
By Law changes; an excellent job was done by Mike Renkert to change some language in our by laws. Six of the seven changes passed and carried while one was defeated. It was a lively discussion led largely by retirees that swayed the body to defeat the one that failed. Complete changes can be found on the website. (Anyone wishing hardcopy can contact me for one)
Nomination/Election of officers, single votes were cast as the following were nominated unopposed.
President, Kathy Adams
Secretary/Treasurer, Don Snow
Executive VP, Paul Morrill
(Thanks Paul for stepping up!)
Officers for 2011 were sworn in by outgoing National VP Ken Kinson. It was announced the next NVP would be from Maine as itÕs that states turn in the rotation. Scott Boardman (if run for national office unsuccessful) or Steve Harris from Brunswick will take over.
Pam Lewis won the GPS from vendor Tom Ables (maybe now she wonÕt have to ask Dickie where weÕre going?)
Discussion on staffing and the need to start a resolution log to get movement on the issue.
Ken Kinson motioned to adjourn; Claire White 2nd passed and carried.
Respectfully,
Don Snow
